Regina’s Journey Home

posted in: Who We Serve | 0

Regina Haring’s journey to Fellowship Square Foundation is a testament to resilience and the power of finding a true home. Born in 1936 in Vienna, Austria, Regina experienced the hardships of World War II firsthand. She lived through the Nazi occupation of Austria, enduring bomb attacks and daily fear as a young child. In 1952, at the age of 16, Regina arrived in America through the Lutheran World Relief Service, describing it as “the happiest day of our lives.” Hunters Woods Fellowship House has become more than just a place to live; it’s a vibrant community she calls home. She appreciates the accessibility of Reston and the kindness of its residents. “I really appreciate that I can stay here in one spot,” Regina says, contrasting her current stability with the insecurity of her early years.

Now 88 years old, Regina looks forward to many more years as an active member of the Hunters Woods Fellowship House community. After a childhood marked by uncertainty and displacement, she has found lasting security and happiness.

Regina’s story embodies the mission of Fellowship Square, providing not just affordable housing, but a true home where seniors can thrive and feel secure in their golden years.
